PITTSBURGH – Reds manager David Bell likes to write out his lineups in advance, usually working ahead by a few days. The lineups are mostly based on matchups and he enjoys doing it that way, so he’s not influenced by a good or bad game from the previous day.
The lineups he writes out in advance aren’t set in stone, but it does give him a chance to communicate to players about which days they could be out of the lineup. It helps him figure out how to balance off days for some regular players.
