SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – It was an unconventional hire that surprised some people throughout the baseball industry.
The Reds, who made a bigger push to use the sport’s latest technology and analytics during the 2019 season, hired Driveline founder Kyle Boddy as their minor league pitching coordinator in October. Driveline is a data-driven facility known for being an early adapter to pitch-tracking devices and slow-motion cameras.
Boddy previously spent time as a consultant for teams, but this is his first full-time role in an organization. When the Reds interviewed Boddy during the summer, they were selling the vision of their organization as much as Boddy helped them become more comfortable with him as the top voice for their minor league pitchers.
