WASHINGTON -- The Reds revealed on Tuesday that left-handed pitcher David Holmberg will be recalled from Triple-A Louisville to start on Thursday vs. the Marlins.
Holmberg, who will be opposed by Jose Fernandez in the four-game series opener at Miami, will be taking the spot of Josh Smith after he was optioned to Double-A Pensacola on Monday.
It hasn't been a robust 2015 season for Holmberg, who is ranked by MLB.com as the Reds' No. 20 prospect. In 16 games, including 15 starts, this season for Louisville, he is 4-6 with a 4.
