MILWAUKEE – At this point, it doesn’t seem like there’s much more to say. Just 22 games into the Reds’ 2017 season, the storyline has become clear. Their starting pitchers are struggling, and the young starting pitchers are struggling most of all.
It’s not to say this wasn’t predictable, not with Anthony DeSclafani and Homer Bailey starting the season on the disabled list and Brandon Finnegan joining them early in the season. Growing pains were inevitable, but they’ve been growing and painful so far.
Wednesday was another painful chapter in a painful process, with rookie Rookie Davis getting hammered and not even making it three full innings in a 9-4 loss to the Brewers.
