Reds score late after Melville's solid spot start

"I went to the sinker and it was moving a lot," Gonzalez said. "Even though I was falling behind, it still helped a lot."

Reds starter Tim Melville gave up two runs (one earned) over three innings with three hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Melville filled in on the start for Michael Lorenzen, who was scratched because of right elbow tenderness.

The Reds' only offense came in the ninth on a pair of two-run doubles from Blake Trahan and Bryson Smith -- both up from Minor League camp -- as well as an RBI two-bagger from Phillip Ervin, but they added a nice defensive play to the highlight reel in the first inning.
