Jeff Hoffman braced for the worst when he underwent an MRI exam Friday morning and awaited results about his right elbow.
On the injured list since July 24, Hoffman’s elbow ballooned the day after throwing a bullpen session in early August to the point where he couldn’t straighten his arm. When he tried to rest his elbow, it flared up whenever he increased intensity.
So, Hoffman was relieved when he learned he avoided Tommy John surgery. His 2022 season is over because he needs to rest his elbow for a few months, transferred to the 60-day IL Thursday, but in his mind, it was the best possible outcome after the swelling in his elbow.
