GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Nick Castellanos joins an outfield with 2021 National League MVP Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, and the Cincinnati Reds are left with a compensatory draft pick.
Castellanos agreed to a five-year, $100 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, according to USA TODAY Sports. The Reds will receive an additional 2022 draft pick because Castellanos declined the club’s one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer in November, which should end up as the No. 32 or No. 33 overall pick.
Reds General Manager Nick Krall reached out to Castellanos’ agent, Scott Boras, a couple of days before Castellanos came to an agreement with the Phillies to monitor his market, sources told The Enquirer.
