Reds Recap: Cincinnati falls on walk-off wild pitch again

CHICAGO – A walk-off wild pitch spoiled a Cincinnati comeback, as the Cincinnati Reds fell 7-6 to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday at Wrigley Field. Here are the main storylines.

The Reds bullpen collapsed in the ninth. After pitching a perfect eighth and with closer Raisel Iglesias having thrown two innings the previous night, left-hander Wandy Peralta remained in for the ninth. He immediately gave up a double to Javier Baez and then walked pinch-hitter Jon Jay. Then, he seemed to plunk Ben Zobrist, who was attempting to bunt.

But first-base umpire Chris Conroy ruled that Zobrist had followed through on his bunt attempt, and sent him back to the plate.
