The Cincinnati Reds came from behind, blew a lead and then won in walk-off fashion in extras, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 in 10 innings on Monday at Great American Ball Park. Here are the main storylines.
Billy Hamilton was the hero. The 10th began inauspiciously as Jose Peraza tried and failed to bunt for a hit. Tucker Barnhart drew a walk after a long at-bat against Daniel Hudson, and was replaced by pinch-hitter Arismendy Alcantara at first.
Alcantara scooted to second when Hudson misfired a pickoff throw, but couldn’t advance farther when Devin Mesoraco grounded to third.
