Right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla will get his shot at sticking in the team’s rotation, earning the start against the Giants on Saturday. Bonilla is already slated to start Thursday’s game against the Cubs in Chicago.
Bonilla pitched five innings of relief in the Reds’ April 22 loss to the Cubs, giving up four runs on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Bonilla made three starts after being sent back down to Triple-A, going 0-2 with a 5.65 ERA. He threw 104 pitches in his last start, Sunday at Toledo.
“He's one of those guys that's going to have the opportunity to hold onto this spot for a while,” Price said.
