CINCINNATI -- Reds right-hander Anthony DeSclafani entered the history books on Saturday afternoon -- as a hitter. The veteran pitcher drilled a third-inning grand slam to left field off Cubs reliever Brian Duensing at Great American Ball Park, becoming the first pitcher to hit a grand slam since Jaime Garcia did so for the Braves at Dodger Stadium last July 21.
The last Reds pitcher to hit a slam was Bob Purkey, who did so on Aug. 1, 1959, against the Cubs in Cincinnati.
The trade market has heated up earlier than usual, with this week's trade of Kelvin Herrera serving as evidence of the active discussions taking place well in advance of the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline.
