GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Cincinnati Reds outfield prospect Drew Mount walks back to the locker room after an intersquad game at minor league spring training.
In one hand, Mount carries his gym bag and two baseball bats. In his other hand, Mount carries his sledgehammer.
It’s the same sledgehammer he bought for $5 when he was a sophomore at De Anza College. Mount has brought it to every baseball game since then, and the sledgehammer has helped him refine his swing and rise up through the Reds farm system.
“I don’t know if there’s any science behind it,” Mount said.
