GOODYEAR, Arizona – In his 14-year MLB career, Joey Votto has played 14,937 innings at first base for the Cincinnati Reds.
The other four players who have played first base during spring training for the Reds this season have played 592 innings in the big leagues at first base, and none of them play first base as their primary position.
When the Reds placed Votto on the injured list because of a positive COVID-19 test on Wednesday, first base became the position on the roster with the least depth at the major league level.
With Votto unavailable, Cheslor Cuthbert, Scott Heineman, Nicky Delmonico and Alex Blandino are the remaining players who have spent time at the position this spring.
