Cincinnati Reds outfielder Shogo Akiyama is scheduled to play his first official game of the year on Tuesday.
On a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Louisville Bats as he recovers from a hamstring injury, Akiyama is expected to play between seven and nine innings in Louisville on Tuesday. Akiyama could reach a similar milestone for the Reds this week.
“I would say, if everything keeps going the way it’s going, for sure in the next week,” Reds manager David Bell said.
Bell added that Akiyama wouldn’t join the team in Cincinnati for its series against the White Sox.
