Reds notes: LHP Brandon Finnegan placed on DL

Brandon Finnegan will rest for two-to-three weeks before pitching again, Reds manager Bryan Price said on Sunday, the day after the starter left a game following a shoulder injury.

Finnegan was optimistic on Sunday morning that it wouldn’t take that long, but Price said the team is preparing for a more lengthy time without Finnegan than just a couple of times through the rotation.

Although the injury to Finnegan’s shoulder was initially announced by the team as a strain of the latissimus dorsi muscle, it was instead the trapezius muscle, Price again reiterated on Sunday.

“Johnny Cueto had a lat strain back in 2013 and it was a tenuous injury and something that was really hard to get under the wraps,” Price said.
