GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Jose Barrero, competing for the Cincinnati Reds’ starting shortstop job, didn’t participate in Saturday’s workout and won’t play in at least the first few spring training games because of a sore left wrist.
Barrero was the Reds’ Minor League Player of the Year in 2021 and played in 21 Major League games, earning time at shortstop, second base and center field.
“He said he felt something this winter and took a little bit of time off,” Reds Manager David Bell said. “Then it was fine. He did something on the field a couple of days ago that re-aggravated it.
