The Cincinnati Reds could be without outfielder Jesse Winker until the beginning of September because of an intercostal strain.
Winker was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday and has yet to begin baseball activities. He’s eligible to return from the IL on Aug. 26, but manager David Bell said it’s unlikely he will be back that quickly.
“He’s getting a lot of treatment and doing strengthening exercises, things like that,” said Bell, who had hoped Winker would only miss the minimum 10 days when he spoke to reporters earlier this week. “It might be a little longer than I thought, which doesn’t surprise me given that area of the body is just so important.
