SAN FRANCISCO – After two Cincinnati Reds batters were called out on strikes during the ninth inning Sunday, manager David Bell came out of the dugout and was promptly ejected.
Bell voiced his displeasure with home-plate umpire Nestor Ceja’s strike zone immediately after emerging from the dugout. It was the first time he was ejected this season and 17th time in his managerial career.
An animated Bell continued his argument for about a minute as crew chief Bill Welke stood between the manager and umpire. The Reds struck out six times during their 10-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park and three were on called third strikes.
