The Reds designated right-hander Blake Wood for assignment the day after he gave up five runs in an inning in Tuesday’s 13-9 loss to the Cubs.
The Reds also optioned outfielder Phillip Ervin to Triple-A Louisville and called up right-handers Luke Farrell and Alejandro Chacin.
Wood, 32, appeared in 55 games for the Reds this year, putting up a 5.65 ERA. He gave up four runs without retiring a batter Saturday in a victory in Atlanta.
Farrell was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Aug. 9. The 26-year-old made his big league debut earlier this year for Kansas City.
