MIAMI –– Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson, who broke his clavicle on a foul tip behind the plate on July 22, will now need surgery to repair his collarbone.
Reds manager David Bell said Stephenson’s fracture has shifted, a development that made the surgery necessary.
“I was told that it’s not going to change the time frame on (his return),” Bell said. “It would’ve made sense for him to go on the 60-day anyway. He could still come back by the end of the season.”
Stephenson was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Monday, and he’s eligible to return on Sept.
