Reds can't finish a late rally, fall to the Milwaukee Brewers

In the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Milwaukee Brewers had one of the best closers in MLB warming up in the bullpen, Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell saw an opportunity.

Bell had outfielder TJ Friedl, representing the tying run in a two-run game, pinch-hit for first baseman Matt Reynolds. Friedl has been one of the Reds’ best hitters against right-handed pitching, and Bell had Friedl pinch-hit even though the Reds didn’t have a player on the bench with experience at first base to replace Reynolds.
