The Reds called up Josh VanMeter from Triple-A Louisville and optioned Cody Reed back to Louisville.
VanMeter will make his big league debut when he appears in a game. He is a native and resident of Ossian, Indiana.
VanMeter, 24 left-handed hitter, was hitting .336/.431/.763 with 13 home runs and 31 RBI at Louisville.
He was acquired as player-to-named December of 2016 in a trade that sent Rule 5 catcher Luis Torrens to San Diego. VanMeter was a .259 career hitter entering this year with a season-high 14 home runs.
He was a fifth-round pick by the Padres in 2013.
