Coming off an entire three-game series where the Cincinnati Reds slumped, the team called up power-hitting prospect Christian Encarnacion-Strand.
In Triple-A, Encarnacion-Strand hit .331 with a 1.042 OPS. Even though he started the season on the injured list, Encarnacion-Strand ranked fourth in all of Minor League Baseball in total bases and had 20 home runs in 67 games.
In a corresponding move, the Reds placed infielder Kevin Newman on the injured list with gastritis.
The Reds acquired Encarnacion-Strand and infielder Spencer Steer at the trade deadline last season in a deal where the Reds sent Tyler Mahle to the Minnesota Twins.
