Byrd, who suffered a fracture in his left wrist on June 2, was slated to start in left field and bat fifth in his return. The outfielder went 2-for-7 with a homer over two rehab games with Double-A Pensacola, the second of which was cut short when Thursday's contest was suspended in the fourth inning due to malfunctioning lights.
Byrd is hitting .212/.286/.442 with 10 homers and 25 RBIs over 47 games in his first season with the Reds.
As for Hand, he returns to Louisville after tossing three scoreless innings in his 2015 debut in Wednesday's 8-4, 13-inning victory over the Tigers.
