Once Amir Garrett saw the home-plate umpire signal a called third strike, he let out a yell and clapped his hands three times as he walked toward the dugout.
Entering in the seventh inning Thursday with the bases loaded, the left-handed Garrett recorded the game’s biggest out in a 6-2 victory against the Chicago Cubs.
Facing Anthony Rizzo, Garrett struck him out in three pitches: a slider, a 97 mph fastball on the inside part of the plate and another 97 mph fastball at Rizzo’s knees.
