Ken Rosenthal (Fox Sports) is reporting the Reds are talking to several clubs about Brandon Phillips. One specific trade mentioned would send Phillips to Arizona for second baseman Aaron Hill.
Phillips has renewed trade value after resetting his career as a singles hitter at the plate. It’s worth remembering that Phillips has no-trade rights based on his veteran status.
Hill (33) has one year remaining on his contract. He’s owed $12 million in 2016. In 353 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks, Hill hit .230/.295/.345. Hill’s defensive value was roughly neutral in 2015.
Quick reaction to trade: It’s a straight salary dump, saving Phillips $13 million in 2017.
