Before the Cincinnati Reds faced the St. Louis Cardinals last Friday, team president Phil Castellini wrote an apology to staff members for his comments that overshadowed the home opener earlier this month.
Castellini, son of owner Bob Castellini and the club's chief operating officer, scoffed at fan criticism in a radio interview with 700-WLW, the team's flagship station, before the team's first home game on April 12. Castellini's comments went viral and continued to draw attention as the Reds lost 11 straight games afterward.

"As we head into our second homestand, I wanted you to hear directly from me regarding my inappropriate comments on Opening Day – a time reserved for celebration," Castellini wrote in an email to Reds employees, which was obtained by The Enquirer.
