Opinion: Major League Baseball swings and misses during its turn in the spotlight

It was only a few weeks ago when Major League Baseball was preparing to have the stage to itself. It wanted to be the first major team sport to return from the pandemic shutdown and it targeted Opening Day around the Fourth of July weekend.

This summer was supposed to be another chapter in baseball’s role as the national pastime. The sport played throughout World War II and it provided normalcy following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in 2001.

How will MLB’s summer be remembered?

Owners and players arguing how to divide billions in revenue. The minor league system is expected to change, and 40 cities could lose their connection to the big leagues.
