No matter what’s expected out of him, Tim Adleman has constantly over-performed for the Reds.
Last year, the Reds called up the former independent league pitcher hoping he could fill up some innings. He went on to make 13 starts, the fourth most on the team, going 4-4 with a 4.00 ERA.
On Sunday, he was called up to help out an ailing bullpen, perhaps give some length in case the worst-case scenario played out with rookie Sal Romano making his big-league debut.
Not only did he give the Reds four innings after Romano managed just three, he allowed just two hits and a run while striking out five, giving the Reds a chance to stay in the game.
