Nate Jones, who grew up attending a handful of Cincinnati Reds games, was informed Saturday that he will be on the Reds' Opening Day 30-man roster.
Jones said it was "surreal" and "nothing less than awesome" when he pitched at Great American Ball Park during their preseason camp scrimmages. Jones is a Pendleton County grad and Northern Kentucky alum.
“Growing up and coming to the ballpark a handful of times and just sitting in the stands, just wanting to play baseball, and then standing on the mound where I was sitting in the stands not too far away and actually pitching to Joey Votto," Jones said last week.
