GOODYEAR, Ariz. – There was some uncertainty regarding Nick Senzel’s status with the Cincinnati Reds at the end of the 2021 season.
Senzel missed the final 123 games because of a left knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery. He wanted to return in August, playing in 10 games on a rehab assignment, but the Reds chose to option him to Triple-A Louisville, believing he wasn’t ready to contribute at the big-league level.
The option to the minor leagues was reversed a few days later because of fluid buildup in his knee, which led to Senzel rehabbing the injury in Arizona for the remainder of the season.
