Pitcher Nick Howard and shortstop Alex Blandino, the Cincinnati Reds top two selections in the 2014 draft, have hit the disabled list while playing for the club’s High-A affiliate, the Daytona Tortugas.
A Tortugas spokesman said Thursday morning that Howard is suffering from shoulder soreness and that Blandino has a fractured finger.
Howard, the 19th overall selection in 2014 draft out of the University of Virginia, has struggled mightily in 2015. The 22-year-old right-hander was moved from the rotation to the bullpen in May after five disastrous starts (18.2 innings, 10 earned runs, 23 walks, 17 strikeouts) to begin the year.
