Before this winter, the Cincinnati Reds were never big players in free agency. From 2010-19, they committed a little under $101 million to free agents. Reliever Jonathan Broxton was their biggest free-agent signing during the decade on a three-year, $21 million deal.
What a difference one offseason can make.
The Reds have committed $164 million to four free agents this offseason: outfielder Nicholas Castellanos (four years, $64 million), second baseman Mike Moustakas (four years, $64 million), outfielder Shogo Akiyama (three years, $21 million) and left-hander Wade Miley (two years, $15 million).
