The author of a Deadspin article Tuesday assessing possible Major League Baseball expansion apparently doesn't think Cincinnati would have a big-league team if not for its tradition. (In other words, if it tried to get one now.)
Deadspin.com's Neil deMause writes that Montreal, Portland, Las Vegas, Charlotte, San Antonio, Vancouver and Monterrey are among cities that "wouldn’t feel any less worthy than existing cities at the bottom of the demographic barrel," and adds the following about Cincinnati:
Any of these cities would be semi-respectable MLB entries - certainly as respectable as, say, Cincinnati, which probably wouldn’t even be considered if it hadn’t already had a team since the Garfield administration.
