MLB boss Manfred: Handling Rose, statue up to the Reds

The Cincinnati Reds have not publicly hinted at how they’ll handle recently surfaced allegations that Pete Rose committed statutory rape during his playing days with the team. The Reds unveiled a statue of Rose earlier this year, and inducted him into the team’s Hall of Fame last season.

The Philadelphia Phillies backed away from honoring Rose in similar ways after the allegations arose. Speaking at an event to promote the RBI World Series in Cincinnati on Wednesday, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said he has no interest in throwing the league office’s weight around to tell the Reds to take down the statue or take other measures to keep Rose at arm’s length.
