Mark Kolozsvary entered spring training as the Cincinnati Reds' catching prospect who was closest to being ready for the big leagues. When catcher Tyler Stephenson suffered a concussion in April, Kolozsvary got the call-up and received his first experience playing in MLB.
He was only 1-for-11 at the plate during that stretch from April 20 through May 1. After Kolozsvary was optioned to Triple-A, he was passed over twice when the Reds needed a backup catcher.
Kolozsvary, who was ranked as a top-30 prospect in the organization entering the season, is finally getting his next opportunity. He was called up on Saturday after Stephenson broke his clavicle, and Kolozsvary hit his first MLB home run in his first game back with the Reds.
