GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Reds sent 16 players to minor league camp on Wednesday in the first round of cuts for the spring.
Among those sent down were right-hander Luis Castillo and second baseman Dilson Herrera. Castillo and Herrera were products of two of the team’s biggest trades since last season, Castillo coming over in exchange this offseason for Dan Straily and Herrera was acquired in the deadline deal that sent Jay Bruce to the Mets.
Herrera and Castillo were optioned to Louisville along with outfielder Aristides Aquino and right-handers Keury Mella, Jackson Stephens, Nick Travieso, Lisalverto Bonilla and Ariel Hernandez.
