On Sunday, Cincinnati Reds reliever Lucas Sims was up against the clock.
He was one pitching appearance away from being ready to complete his rehab assignment. Sims’ last step to returning to the Reds’ active roster as he recovers from back spasms was pitching in back-to-back games on his Triple-A rehab assignment. The problem was the rain in Sunday’s forecast.
The Reds decided to have Sims open the game and pitch one inning as the starting pitcher. The game was called after the middle of the third inning, but Sims got his necessary work in and pitched a scoreless inning.
