The Cincinnati Reds closed out the Crosley Field era 50 years ago with the last game at the ballpark on June 24, 1970.
The end came in the middle of the season. Six days later the Reds would christen the new $45 million Riverfront Stadium along the Ohio River, part of the city’s master plan for riverfront development.
After 58 years of baseball at Findlay Street and Western Avenue in the West End, the stands would empty out. The crowds would move on to cheer on the Big Red Machine. And Crosley would fade away.
