PITTSBURGH – Following Friday’s shutout loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Yasiel Puig went to the 12-foot Roberto Clemente statue outside of PNC Park and pleaded for a hit.
“Please, please I need a hit and my team (a) win,” Puig said while hugging the bronze statue. After three consecutive shutouts, the Reds were willing to try anything to change their luck.
Puig received half of his wish in a 6-5, walk-off loss to the Pirates in 10 innings Saturday. Kevin Newman hit a walk-off triple against Reds closer Raisel Iglesias, who pitched more than two innings in a relief appearance for the first time since July 30, 2016.
