ST. LOUIS – Facing a new reliever with two runners on base in the fifth inning Tuesday, José Peraza didn’t waste any time. Peraza swung at a first-pitch fastball and lined an RBI single into center field.
The throw from center field was cut off by St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt with Peraza nearly halfway between first and second base. Peraza hurried back to first base and slid ahead of a diving Goldschmidt safely into the bag.
