ST. LOUIS – Jose Barrero spent the last four days sitting on the Cincinnati Reds’ taxi squad waiting for an opportunity to help the club in a playoff race.
Barrero welcomed himself back to the big leagues with a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the ninth inning Friday and scored a key insurance run by beating a throw to the plate to give the Reds a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Reds kept Barrero on the taxi squad in preparation for Kyle Farmer taking paternity leave for the birth of his son.
