The tidal wave of bad news is beyond belief, one after another, with the pain piercing Hall of Famer Johnny Bench’s soul these past six weeks.
A year ago, they were all together in Cooperstown, N.Y. celebrating another Hall of Fame induction weekend.
Now, one by one, they are gone.
It was Al Kaline in April. Tom Seaver in August. Lou Brock in September. And now in October, Bob Gibson, Whitey Ford and Joe Morgan all passing in less than two weeks.
