GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Joey Votto would’ve never imagined doing it when he first broke into the Major Leagues and he probably wouldn’t have done it even a few years ago.
Votto crossed home plate after hitting a home run at Wrigley Field, turned his back to the crowd, raised his arms and pointed both of his thumbs toward the name on the back of his jersey. It was a reference to how a character celebrated a soccer goal in the popular Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso”, which he and manager David Bell bonded over, and Votto continued doing it for the rest of the season.
