Walking through the metal detectors at Wrigley Field, people are asked to empty their pockets of keys, cell phones and wallets.
Those rules apparently extend to National League Most Valuable Players.
A few hours before the Reds' series opener against the Chicago Cubs on Friday, Joey Votto was stopped at the metal detector by a security guard, which was captured on Twitter.
Votto tried to explain he was there to play in the game, turning to a fan and asking, “Hey, who am I?”
The fan responded, “Joey Votto. That’s the man! MVP.”
Votto, a five-time All-Star, exchanged a fist bump with the fan, flashed a thumbs up to the security guard and continued his walk into the stadium.
