Joey Votto is a very private person in a very public industry. He’s thoughtful and aware of the world around him. But he doesn’t share on his political or social views.
So it was surprising that he chose to write an essay op-ed for The Enquirer in the aftermath or George Floyd’s death, entitled “My awakening”.
Votto let the essay, which ran June 7, stand on its own until Friday when he was asked upon the Reds return to the field on why he felt compelled to express his opinion.
He went into a very Votto answer – long and thought out:
