Former Cincinnati Reds catcher Joe Oliver, best known for the walk-off single he hit off of Hall of Famer pitcher Dennis Eckersley of the Oakland A's in Game 2 of the 1990 World Series, is the new manager of the Frederick Keys, per an announcement Tuesday morning from the team.
The Keys are a collegiate summer team and recent addition to the MLB Draft League located in Frederick, Maryland. Their long-time affiliation with the Baltimore Orioles ended in Dec. 2020.
Last year, Oliver managed the Bluefield Ridge Runners of the Appalachian League - also in the MLB Draft League.
