Jackson Stephens, Rookie Davis joining Reds' rotation

Tyler Mahle’s 2017 season is finished, Reds manager Bryan Price said before Saturday’s game against the Pirates. The rookie right-hander made four starts at the big-league level, getting his first career victory last week in St. Louis.

Right-handers Jackson Stephens and Rookie Davis will join the rotation, with lefty Amir Garrett moving out of the rotation.

Mahle was the Reds’ best pitcher in the minors this season and went 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA in the big leagues. Between the minors and the majors, he threw 164 1/3 innings. He threw 150 2/3 last season.

“We're able to satisfy what our goals were, which was get him four starts here at the big-league level and get him acclimated somewhat leading into next season, should he make our club out of spring training or at some point during the year so it wouldn't be his first taste, that he'd been here before,” Price said.
