GOODYEAR, Ariz. – When Mike Minor learned this week that he was heading to the Cincinnati Reds, the Kansas City Royals front office explained the trade to him. The Royals told Minor that they had a few other teams interested in him, but they wanted to trade Minor to a place where he would be a good fit.
In Cincinnati, Minor could reunite with his former college pitching coach, current Reds pitching coach Derek Johnson. Minor could be closer to his hometown in Tennessee, and he wouldn’t have to move to a Florida spring training site.
On Wednesday, the Royals traded Minor to the Reds for Amir Garrett.
