GOODYEAR, Arizona – There aren’t many people in baseball who don’t have a strong opinion about Kyle Boddy, the Cincinnati Reds’ new minor league pitching coordinator.
He was at the forefront of the sport’s analytical revolution after he founded the data-driven Driveline facility near Seattle. Driveline popularized weighted balls to help pitchers increase their velocity. It was a very early adopter of the Edgertronic slow-motion cameras, which can slow video to more than 1,000 frames per second, and are now seen behind almost every bullpen session at spring training.
Boddy had a brash approach as he tried to argue that teams were stuck in their ways and needed to adapt.
